Carol Schram: Good effort, frustrating result as Vancouver Canucks are shut out by Oilers The Vancouver Canucks outshot the Edmonton Oilers 33-22 on Saturday night, but came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 shutout loss on the scoreboard.

I would look at bringing Bachman back for a year or two. He is reliable ,cheap and it is a transition year. Paying Markstrom 3.6 mil for 10 starts is nuts.

I think Bachman was extended to be exposed for the LV draft.

With you on Markstrom, why did they sign him for that if they didn't believe in him/worth the gamble?

I keep thinking team in transition, short commitments for ufa's and older players.

I think having him back up Canucks net year is the way to go. Insta of bringing in a guy at triple the cost to get the same results doesn't make sense. I expect we do a lot of losing next year anyways

Who are you bringing in and how much?

We are going to be a bottom feeder next year so why get involved in contracts and cap space . Take our Lottery pick next year and worry about things the following year.

They didn't give markstrom an extension for no reason. Miller is out...deal with it. Markie is the starter next year and I see no reason why Bachman can't backup and play 25-
35 games. Team still blows, still will be bottom five next year. Vantel is right , save the cap space, give Markie the reigns and use the space to eat some bad contracts and acquire good young assets. Then Demko comes up in 18/19 season mentors under Markie a year and it's his team the following season...right at the perfect time to crest with our current young players coming into their peak years.

The FA market these days is too crazy, NTC's & NMC's are being handed out too often.

from last blog

Patrick Marleau, Patrick Sharp, Patrick Eaves, Justin Williams, Daniel Winnik all forwards that might be tempted to 1 yr deals.

Dennis Seidenberg I'd take as a 3rd pairing guy. Van has a very young defence.

I just dont think bachman is an NHL caliber goalie. Yes, I know he has been pretty good in his few games for the Canucks but he is a decent AHL goalie and that's it. I'd just feel more comfortable with an NHL vet signed to a 1 year deal. There will be plenty of veteran backups available this summer for cheap. Bachman was working well with Demko and they should continue to partner in Utica. With a youthful roster we should at least provide stable goaltending

Precisely. Time for Marky to man up and be the starter next year…doesn't really matter who backs him up at this point with our current roster.

Miller is gone…thankfully. Don't need to pay him big dollars next season for another 75 pt year.

Oh i agree...I just think we can do better than Bachman. Let's insulate the kids with some decent veterans and stable goaltending. I don't want to be the sh!tty oilers

I think next year will be a rough year. New coach, new Kids , old mentorship. I am fully expecting a bottom three finish

I expect this to be the second of three years in a row of bottom three, Benning had better have something to show for it by the time next years draft is over. I'm sure he will......please!!!

Marleau wont sign a 1yr deal outside of San Jose, not sure why Sharp or Williams would sign a one year deal unless they are paid very well for the opportunity to be traded somewhere more competitive at the dealine, Eaves most likely wants to maximize on his career year so I dont see a 1 yr deal being appealing....you could probably have Winnik.
